Elisha Wallen, Sr. was born on July 16, 1708 in Cohansey, Salem County, New Jersey. His father's will authorized his
He married Mary Blevins. Elizabeth Wallen (1727, married William Roberts), In 1733, Elisha was on a list of tithables in the Monocosie Hundred in Prince George's County, Maryland. Before 1740, Elisha went on long hunting expeditions to Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky with Mary's father and brothers. The Wallens built a blockhouse on Smith River, in what would become Henry County, Virginia with the Blevins family. In 1745, Elisha patented 400 acres on Cherrystone Creek. Cherystone Creek is now in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. In 1746, Elisha patented land on the Irwin and Smith Rivers that he called Roundabout. In 1747, he entered 400 acres on the north fork of Buttram Town creek. In 1748, he was appointed constable of Western Lunenburg County from Smith River to the Wart Mountains (in current Henry and Patrick Counties) and entered 400 acres on the Sandy River. In June, 1748, Elisha was appointed surveyor of part of a new road from the Staunton River to the Mayo Settlement that went from from Bannister to the Smith River. In 1767, Elisha was taxed in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
In 1774 James and Joseph were in Captain Looney's Company. In 1786, William son of James, Elisha, John, William son of Thomas and Thomas signed a petition in Sullivan County, Tennessee. In 1787 Joseph and Elisha Wallen received land grants in Sullivan County, Tennessee. In 1787, according to the Bent Creek Baptist Church record Elisha Wallen was baptized. |
